Kiwi Angler Catches Massive 30.31-Pound Potential Line Class World Record Rainbow Trout
Rae Bushby has just been fishing a tad north of a year — and she's as of now gotten a fish that any trout fisher would dream of. On August 15, she went fishing with her kid father Robert at the Tekapo Canal in Central New Zealand. Bushby says she began fishing 16 months prior and her dad is her ordinary fishing pal. Robert was enjoying some time off around 10:30 a.m. on the fifteenth when the huhu grub — a little, coarse hatchling — Bushby was utilizing for trap got hit.
"On the snare set, the line began shouting out the reel as my pole bowed in an exceptionally satisfying manner," Bushby tells F&S. "I purposely had next to no strain on, as I have lost a couple of huge 'jackass' fish from a messed up line previously. I pursued down the channel the fish thinking I had a decent one on… perhaps more than 10 pounds!"
Bushby says her companion John was fishing around 100 yards downstream of her. The fish was running hard toward him with Bushby scrambling down the bank close behind. Abruptly, the fish halted, and Bushby thought it had gotten the line trapped in some submerged design. "I had a go at coming down on the line, however it didn't move, and I would have rather not severed my line. John said I would need to be patient and perhaps the fish would get itself off the obstruction," says Bushby. "I brought my line in as I strolled down the channel until I was practically inverse the fish, and John and I paused and guessed on the size of the fish while I moaned about the way that it had got caught. Following two or three minutes, my line began to haul out of the reel gradually. 'See, John,' I called out, 'My line is moving.' John said, 'Rae that is not caught, that is a hotshot!'"
The fish kept heading down the channel however at a more slow speed than previously. Once more, before long, the fish halted. Bushby got downstream of it and involved the ongoing in support of herself. She began acquiring line on the fish once more. She battled the enormous trout gradually, allowing it to take line when required. Ultimately, it penetrated the surface prior to taking off on a rankling run. By then, Bushby says the laborers at a close by salmon homestead had arranged along the channel to watch the battle.
"After a couple of additional little runs, I figured out how to pull in the most stunning and greatest trout I have at any point seen," says Bushby. "John inquired as to whether he could net the fish for myself and I promptly concurred. He snatched my net and bounced into the water and scooped it up..… similarly as my snare emerged from its mouth."
The rainbow trout Bushby had gotten was much greater than she'd originally suspected. It was 34.6 inches long and had a size of 27.5 inches. The fish weighed in at 30.31 pounds. Bushby later understood that she might have a world record on her hands. Bushby's fish beat the ongoing International Game Fish Association (IGFA) ladies' 8-pound line class world record, which is a 29-pound, 5-ouncer got by Emily Allum in the Tekapo Canal in 2019. Bushby has presented a record application to the IGFA and is standing by to hear back on her possible record.
